Internet – Visual Web Search

Is the Internet turning into a visual web

I have been encountering and actually like a couple of visual search portals offering to show your search results in the form of icons or mini pictures for your requested web site and how it connects to other websites in either a grid or a map like frame.

Below are some of the ones i think are heading to the headlines

Check out the following

Kartoo

It offers a friendly user interface, and shows your results in a map like screen with a surfer standing on your searched area, check out the image below.

You can try it out at http://www.kartoo.com

Oskope

although limiting its offerings by allowing search only on youtube (www.youtube.com), flickr (www.flickr.com) , ebay (www.ebay.com) , amazon (www.amazon.com), yahoo image search (images.yahoo.com) and fotolia (www.fotolia.com), there is no google or msn included, anyhow, it has a unique way of displaying results through related images display and you can change your zoom level to see more or less pictures

Quintura

Quintra offers a normal google like search engine in one half of the page and a tag or user preference cloud search on the other half. take a look below.

Mnemo

Also offers both a normal search but adds to it a more interesting web like links which takes you deeper into the search.

Most of other websites that offer visual search are usually an image search, camouflaged in a hippy like portal design and shows no more than what google images used to show years ago, may be there is a couple that specialize in image or news search from multiple websites like fundooweb.com which incorporates Yahoo!, Flickr, Yahoo! News, Yahoo! Answers, Amazon, and Yahoo! Maps images, a few others offer something special. Keep me posted if you find anything interesting.
